Once upon a time, an entrepreneur named James R. Trueman had a vision for a hotel chain that was unlike any other. Wanting to provide a clean, comfortable room at a fair price, Mr. Trueman opened his first hotel on February 20 1973 in Grove City, Ohio with rooms at an unprecedented $8.50 a night. As a fan of a well-prepared steak, Mr. Trueman named his hotel after the Red Roof Tavern, a steakhouse in Kalamazoo, Michigan, and from there the Red Roof Inn experience began.
Throughout the years, Red Roof continued to enhance the guest’s experience. In 1980, Red Roof introduced a toll-free reservation system to provide guests with an easy means to make reservation. In 1982, the RediCard loyalty program was launched to reward repeat guests. And by 1984, Red Roof implemented a computerized property management system which was the first in the economy lodging segment. By the 90s, Red Roof had expanded into new markets, began welcoming franchise partners and was on course to turn every traveler and four-legged furry friend into a Red Roof fan.
Travel fast forward to the 21st story and Red Roof has become a recognized leader in delivering a comfortable affordable choice for lodging. With 400 locations and growing, guests repeatedly rave on social media outlets such as TripAdvsor, voting Red Roof #1 in the economy segment in 2013. In 2014 Red Roof introduced Red Roof Plus+, creating a new premium room type with added hotel features and enhanced service to dazzle travelers young and old. Our hotel managers at corporate-managed locations complete 5 weeks of comprehensive training to understand brand goals, standards, and procedures. Training flies by the first 2 weeks, mentoring with a successful manager in the field who is there to show you the ropes. The remaining 3 weeks of training includes classroom training at our Corporate Office in Columbus, Ohio where managers can refine their skills, network with other managers and franchisees in the brand, and connect with representatives from the corporate office. But wait… there’s more! Training does not stop there. Red Roof offers a Continuing Education Program to keep you at the top of your game and pick up additional expertise throughout the year. Every month, YOU can decide what chapter comes next in your development and career story.
TEAM MEMBER TRAINING
The key to our success is having Guest Service Representatives (GSRs as they are known) that go above and beyond in creating memorable guest experiences. Our Front Desk, Housekeeping, Laundry, and Maintenance GSRs receive new hire and ongoing training that includes job aids, training resources/manuals, videos, access to our online learning system RED Academy, and regular coaching. We’re here to help you reach your full potential. Once you become a part of the Red Roof family, you won’t want to leave!

Franchise Managers participate in a two week training program that thoroughly prepares Managers to deliver the Red Roof experience.
