On the evening of 14-Nov-17 I was traveling east in Missouri on I-70 and was wanting a place to stay. I called some hotels but they were booked. I called this Red Roof Inn and they said they had vacancies. "Excellent!" I thought. After I got there, the woman gave me the card to my room and I proceeded there. I stepped in the room and was met by a VERY foul odor. I don't know what it was; it smelled like a mixture of cigarette smoke and cleaning solvent. It reeked! I went back to the office, told her the problem, and she gave me a card to another room. It was exactly the same... the stench was horrible. I went back to the office and told her, "I'm not being high-maintenance here, but these rooms smell horrible. I'm going to look for another place to stay." She quickly refunded my money, and I stepped out. She didn't say anything... no "I'm sorry, we'll fix the problem" - NOTHING. Very rude. You would be better off sleeping in your car than staying at this place!

Health Hazard - Run away!!

The first room they sent me too smelled like a family of cats had been living there for a month. I went back to the desk and asked for another room. The 2nd room was a "little" better, but when I opened the bathroom door - a dozen or more flies tried to escape. I quickly went to the bathroom and then shut the door and put a towel under it to keep remaining flies trapped. I would have switched hotels at this point, but there was a softball tournament in town and everyone else was completely booked. The next morning I told them I was leaving and the desk guy said he would refund my money for that night. That never happened. I didn't realize the health department allowed public places to be this bad. (BTW - I sent a message to the health department - hopefully they'll do an inspection.)

Hotel is very close to the interstate, that is about the only good thing about it. The rooms smelled of cigarette smoke even thou it is a 100% smoke free hotel. The bed was dirty, had to be changed. The towels were small and should have been replaced years ago full of holes

Red Roof is our go-to place on business trips because of our company discount. So far they have all been very nice, so this was kind of a disappointment. The red wall in the room was so thick with dust that you could write your name in it. I’ve never seen anything like it before. Looked like maybe part of it had been wiped down..once. The pillows were flat and hard. Was not a good night’s sleep. We won’t be staying at this one again.

Past & Present recurring issue(s)

This is the 3rd and last time we give our hard earned money to stay at this hotel. We have had the same recurring issue at this hotel (and if you take the time to read past reviews you'll see the same pattern reflected repeatedly) the hotel has a housekeeping staff that dictates hotel policy, with little or no management supervision to check whether cleaning is done correctly or at all. We have stayed at this hotel for multiple days on several occasions due to family illness issues in the area and expect to not have to deal with more issues at the hotel were staying at to add to the stress of the visit more. Check in is at 3pm and checkout is 11am daily stated on the website and at the hotel, this to us indicates that for stay overs like us housekeeping should get to the room between these times (11-3) in an ideal situation, well more times than not this did not happen. When front desk/management was contacted about the issue we were told that the housekeeping does rooms in blocks and our room wasn't available during their time frame so it wasn't done that day, SERIOUSLY ? I have to set my sleep schedule to the staffs time table. The room was available daily during our stay by 11am (give or take 5-10 mins +/-) The room is an economy room and we expect to see that reflected in some areas (ie; dated furnishings, some cleaning issues (carpet) maybe as even the more pricier hotels the a/c filter not cleaned) but we will not be charged full price daily and put up with a dirty / unrefreshed room and then be given excuses by property staff, that is beyond unacceptable. We've read the past reviews more thoroughly recently and there seems to be alot of complaints on housekeeping and replied excuses / apologies from management. The old adage of "talk is cheap" seems to apply here. The property seems to have alot of "long term" residents here by the visual you get when you walk the property and look at some of the "decorations" on the entry ways and window sills of alot of the rooms. The front desk is friendly and the housekeeping staff is cordial and we went to the front desk to retrieve fresh towels, toiletries, trash bags etc... so we could freshen the room for our nightly "wind down" and get ready for the next day we were given what was needed but it should not be a chore we should have to perform. The "superior" rooms are equipped with microwave, microfridge, coffee maker, large flat screen tv with cable channels ( though the channel guide, info and several channels were unavailable during our entire stay), a dated vinyl covered chair, iron and ironing board, a "L" shaped desk area w/ office type rolling chair & desk lamp. With some TLC shown and applied to this property it could regain a desirability to customers in the future and still maintain the " More than you'd ever expect from an economy hotel" that is important to today's travelers. As a "Redi" member we stay often in Red Roof Inns and is with all hospitality chains some are better than others but this property needs to address several issues to be in the "will return" column for the future, other than what previously has been mentioned the unhealthy and disgustingly filthy carpet would be a great place to start. We therefore can not in good consciousness recommend this hotel to patrons who care about where they spend their hard earned money. 👎👎
