Not great but far from bad !

If me but no kids I would possibly stay again hubby won't but... Upon arrival girl at desk told you the pool was temp out of use so we could get out of our reservation if wanted. We stayed not going to die without it.but we were not informed of the contanintal breakfast untill after we paid In reveiw and description I read when I made reservations and in car on the way there it stated free breakfest waffles etc. Wich was the one and only thing we narrowed sherch on besides date and 2 beds. That was a big issue for us especially hubby. Hallway downstairs to stairs to room had an off smell but upstairs smelled fine , stair way was clean , reasonably dust free ,clean. Room was not bad bathroom was exceptionally clean everything in room seems freshly painted. Sheets blankets and bedspead, pillows all looked and smelled clean. Tiny towels but they're there. 1 tiny guest soap worked ok but the it's almost the size of a travel size toothpaste but had to use hole thing to kids wash my hair. Now my hair is almost to my waist but normally at hotels about half does a great job.but oh well. Our TV was unhooked from the TV itself the front was missing off smoke detector hope it still works I had to fix TV and the lamp by bed too. The shade was off where it would have been attached by screw but there wasn't one. Gone on other lanp too but the 1st lamp the shade was leaning and touching the bulb that is a fire Hazzard.. the new key cards don't work on exit doors or so the lady at desk said so ppl prop it open there is ice machine which is awesome but nothing to get it in. Oh well. Toilet you have to juggle handle to stop running. Worst thing outside of safety concern for me was 1 someone smoking pot inside their room downstairs so it came upstairs threw was this morning going potty saw what I thought was roach poop on wall where it was not yesterday and then saw baby roack. I killed it . But again I've stayed in worse . Much worse before.

I travel through the area a lot and have stayed at pretty much every motel in Arcata and Eureka. This motel is one of the cleanest if not the cleanest in the neighborhood. The rooms look really nice. AC works well, breakfast is continental and nothing to write home about, but hey it's free! The front staff is really accommodating. Mat helped me out a lot while I was there. Mat with one T. It's conveniently located next to fast food and supermarkets. The parking lot is huge. As for it being in a bad neighborhood, I laugh at that statement. There is no grafitti, no gang tags, no gun fire at night, no police sirens or helicopters flying overhead. If you're looking for a clean, quite room, you can't go wrong here.

Outside, north of, Arcata so you need a car to get into town. Cheap. Friendly staff. Wifi works. Simple but large, clean and perfectly pleasant room. We broke a coffee jug - no fuss at all. Excellent value.

Reviews give this place a raw deal

After a bad experience in San Francisco we were very wary of staying at this motel, especially after reading the reviews. When we arrived the reception looked lovely and welcoming but we voiced our concerns and asked if we could look at the rooms before we booked in to decide if we wanted to stay. The gentleman was very understanding and got the owner/manager. They were only too pleased to show us the rooms and explained that there had been a recent change of owners/managers and they were in the process of putting things right. The pool was in the process of being refurbished and therefore out of action and there was no breakfast as the dining area was also being refurbished and said if we wanted to cancel our booking there would be no charge. After being shown the first room we were quite happy with everything and went ahead and checked in.

I felt like I needed a shower the minute I walked in to the room. The carpet was filthy, the room smelled funky, paint was peeling off the walls, the bath towels had hair on them and the bathroom had a layer of grime and hair. Not only was the bedding on both beds severely stained, there was only one thin blanket on each and one of them only came up half way on the bed. The furniture was from some other decade and the TV remote was sticky. It was loud with people roaming and visiting in the hallway; woke up in the middle of the night to loud voices right outside the window. We only stayed because we were too tired to leave...just needed a place to rest for the night. Too bad we got no rest at all. It was a terrible night and we could not wait to get out the next morning; left before daylight, actually. We were told that Red Roof only recently took over; only to find out the next morning, they took over a very long time ago; time enough to re-model. The front desk manager was kind enough to refund some of the room cost, and was very courteous. The whole place should be gutted and re-modeled.
