Great location, good service, updated property, TINY rooms

There must have been a convention or two in town, because finding a reasonably priced room that didnt start at $400/night was next to impossible. Finally found the St. Clair and grabbed it because we didnt need anything special, just clean and convenient. The St. Clair did not disappoint, it is walking distance to the Magnificent Mile and Uber close (<$10) to all other major sites in the city. The check in/out process was quick efficient and the staff is very friendly. The lobby is small the elevators are tiny. Once you put a luggage cart in the elevator you barely have room for two people. The rooms are updated, and very clean, but they are small, How small you ask? There is a bureau, your coffee maker is under your nightstand, the ice bucket is on top of the safe in closet, and your "desk" is one of those padded lap desks. The double beds were very comfortable but the pillows were pretty soft with little support. I will use the theme tiny again, to describe the bathroom. There is NO counterspace and since there is no bureau, if you have alot of personal care items you need to lay out, you will be very challenged. Sound travels a bit too much in this property, you can hear the TV from other rooms, and if anybody is talking above a whisper in the hallway, you can hear it. Would this be my first choice to stay in Chicago? Probably not, but if priced right, it is not a bad option.

Renovated hotel - Convenient location

Renovated hotel - not bad for the price. Striking workers protesting outside of the hotel created a lot of noise - I wish I had been told this before booking. Not sure if strike is still going on so you should check first. Rooms were spacious and comfortable.

Small basic clean hygienic rooms at an excellent location!

Excellent location - easy access to all the points to visit / shop at Chicago (kinda walkable). The WiFi access was kinda limited at our room on a higher floor. The coffee in the rooms , the baggage hold facilities were a blessing. Small basic but clean rooms. Would stay again.

The Good; The Bad; The Ugly

Bottom line, would I stay here again? Answer: only if there were no other options. The staff are good; the lobby small; the elevator service, barely adequate. But what most of us rate a hotel on are the rooms, the cleanliness, and whether we can get a good night’s sleep. I did have one of the larger King rooms, and the size was quite nice. The bed was very comfortable although I found the pillows lacking. There was no comfortable chair to relax in while reading a book for example, but there was an uncomfortable desk chair. The bathroom was unbelievably tiny, but it works, especially if you are a solo traveler. The shower was good. The “Ugly” mentioned in my title, is the noise level. The hallways are so narrow that literally 2 people could pass each other. The bedroom doors cannot be closed without sending odd very loud noise, and you can hear every door closing on your floor. You can also hear the TV in nearby rooms, not to mention conversation. Lastly, I forgot to mention that the location of the hotel is excellent. So, this is a mixed review, but it’s the noise in the hallways as well as the relatively thin walls that are the deal breaker for me.

Hotel is well located in the heart of most attractions and activity. Popular restaurants, and most major shops and brand outlets etc.are at walking distance. A nice, clean place with helpful staff.Offers good value for money.
