Horrible stay. No point in lining up as no one else does, just stand at the front desk and you will be helped with no regard to anyone else who has been waiting waiting. Make sure you don't book via third party or the hotel gives you an incorrect room, they'll blame it on the site you booked with and lie to you about not having any available rooms similar to what you originally booked. I'll be surprised if the elevator ever got fixed. They have laundry facilities but no vending machine with laundry detergent. The toilet and sink were dirty with urine, residue and hair. I'm not sure how they got all these good reviews, but I didn't experience anything everyone else seems to be describing. I would NEVER consider staying at this hotel even if the room was free and I was paid to stay here. No thanks to Bruce who was the manager on duty... he came up to provide the key to the correct room we eventually received an hour later, but no apology.

"The Proof Is Behind The Scenes"

I had a chance to book one night at the St. Clair Hotel, formerly Red Roof Inn. I want to apologize to Bruce who is part of the leadership team. In retrospect the true test of a professionally run hotel is how management handles issues no matter how big or small. I was totally impressed with Bruce's proactive approach which resulted with an iimmediate remedy. I have booked at many hotels & have not found one hotel that measures up to the St. Clair Hotel. It is okay if you check in & there are no problems, but what happens if management is indifferent like the Raffaello Hotel who left me in the lurch regarding my $100 incidental fee & did not respond to my Tripadvisor evaluation? Dealing with Bruce I had no need to escalate my issue because he took care of it pronto. To all travelers out there thinking about checking into the St. Clair Hotel please remember taking care of their guests is a full package deal. I will be booking again soon no doubt.

A high-end Red Roof

Excellent location and a great staff make this red-roof way above the average red-roof. The rooms are small, but very clean and everything is laid out to get the maximum out of the square footage. I had no complaints and the price was very reasonable. I would stay there again.

The location is excellent and the service level was outstanding across the board. The room was spotless. I was able to walk to Michigan Avenue in a few minutes and many great restaurants are within walking distance. Bathrooms are smaller but walk-in shower was great and plenty big.

MAJOR Disappointment

I was so excited to get this place at the rate I did as the reviews were excellent. Well, there's a reason the price is so low. There are only 2 elevators for staff and guests. 1 was down. I arrived on Friday and waited 40 minutes (not an exaggeration) for an elevator. Our room was in the 16th floor and my mother recently had double knee surgery so stairs aren't an option for us. Throughout the weekend we spent no less than 3 hours waiting and riding elevators. The housekeeping staff holds the ONE elevator because they know how long it takes to get one. Then I politely ask for late check out, an accommodation that you wouldn't think would be too hard with the inconvenience of the elevator, and we were told we would be charged a half days rate. I was livid! And then had to stand next to the front desk guy that I was livid at for 20 minutes waiting for an elevator upstairs. I haven't even gotten into the paper thin walls and people slamming doors at all hours of the night. In short, I'll never stay here again. The only way I would recommend this place is if you are in your early 20s, and in Chicago looking to party and not get much sleep and walk a lot of stairs. P.s. I've NEVER given a 1 🌟 review before. Oh yeah, everything wreaks of weed.

Pet Policy: One family pet not to exceed 40 pounds is permitted at no additional charge. Pet must be declared during registration and kept on a leash when outside guest room. Pets must never be left unattended in the guestroom and when you walk your pet please clean up after your pet.

**There is no parking on-site at this location. Our current valet parking rate is 58.00 per vehicle, per night of stay this includes in and out privileges. The total for all vehicles for the entire stay is collected at check-in. Reservations for the valet parking service are not required. Custom vans, dually trucks, and other oversize vehicles may not be able to be parked. Trailers and motorcycles cannot be parked.

The hotel requires a credit card or debit card authorization for the full cost of the entire reserved stay, including parking if applicable, and an incidental deposit of 75.00 at the time of check-in. Cash is accepted at check-out. This hotel does not accept pre-paid or 3rd party debit cards. There is an ATM in the hotel for these transactions.
