TripAdvisor Ratings

It's fine

Setting expectations - the Red Roof Inn in Deerfield is not a destination hotel. It belongs to the class of hotels that are judged primarily on cleanliness and location; and while the former is objective, the latter is in the eye of the beholder. You either need to be where the hotel is, or you don't. So let it be known that the Deerfield Red Roof Inn is clean. Although my wife, who can spot a dust bunny at 200 yds, was not with me, I am fairly certain she would have agreed. The room smelled a bit like cleaning products, but that's much better than the alternative. The A/C had one of those classic clanging fan blades, but it wasn't so bad we couldn't sleep, and the A/C worked just fine. The double-double room was a little tight, but the beds were comfortable and the TV worked. I couldn't get the wifi to work at all, which may have been a function of our distance from the center of the building. If you are green, you'll appreciate that the total wattage of the lights can't be more than 4 or 5 watts, total, so don't plan on plucking eyebrows without a lit mirror. The front desk staff was very friendly and efficient. Like many Red Roof Inns, access is open air and un-restricted, which can be a little creepy. However, upon check-in you can see the comprehensive video surveillance in place. Deerfield is a nice upper middle class neighborhood, anyway. Overall, no substantive complaints, which is high praise for this price point. Don't let the three star review scare you off - the rating is relative to my other reviews, which include many world-class properties. It is clear that management cares about the hotel and its visitors, so if you need to be in Deerfield, you'll be comfy at the Red Roof Inn.

Review of Redroof Inn Deerfield, IL
July 17, 2018

I found the room very clean and service is fantastic. Great flat screen TV's with good cable package. Grounds and building are very well maintained and the location is perfect, close to the North Shore and a quick drive to downtown. Mirian Leon (General Manager) checked me in and was very proffesional and personable. Great place for the price and I would definaetly stay there again. Tom A

Very poor customer service and care.
July 10, 2018

On May 11th I went to check into this establishment. I had two rooms reserved through ALE (a service through my insurance company) after a fire displaced us. The intended stay was three to four weeks. My car was fully packed. The reservations were clear: Two rooms (near each other), first floor, with pets. One special needs young adult and one disabled adult. Upon check-in, I was told there were no rooms available, that there was a reservation, but no rooms. After a lot of back and forth, the manager comes out to explain that she can accommodate us on the third floor. According to her, "we only allow pets on our third floor". This is not stipulated anywhere on their website. I asked (again) if she saw the reservation and the specific requests and her response was, "I always tell those people that reservations are not guaranteed". Then I explain there is no way we can be on the third floor due to our special circumstances, to which she shot back, "Well you can use the elevator, you know". I try to appeal to her sense of compassion; we had a fire, we have to live somewhere, we need a microwave and fridge, we're really in a bad way here. She goes on to tell me that not all rooms have microwaves/fridge and that's not guaranteed anyway. Finally, she says, "Look, I have a group booked here for the next six months. I don't have the space to accommodate you on the first floor". The manager's name is Miriam. She was unsympathetic, rude, and unwilling to even show a sliver a decency. With no other choice, I had to leave. After five hours, with my son (not doing well at all with this) - ALE found us a fabulous place in Skokie. We stayed there for eight weeks. We were very well taken care of; animals and all. Not one problem or mishap. And all of our reservation needs were met. Lastly, ALE stated that when they make reservations for their customers (who are in distress and misplaced during times of crisis) they are NOT told that reservations are not guaranteed. What's the point of making one, if the hotel will not honor it?

Flexible manager

the room was clean as all the Redroofs that i have stayed in have been. There was a form to fill out when i checked in asking how many dogs and i put down 2 not knowing there is a policy of one dog per room. I had never been asked to fill out such a form at any other Redroof I have stayed at since 2011. The manager was kind enough to make an exception and let me stay with my well behaved dogs. The only quibble i have is about the lack of a freezer compartment in the room mini-fridges which seems to be common all across the country now. Most places have a freezer compartment somewhere near the office where they will put your ice packs. This inn does not apparently. I guess it's because they don't serve breakfast although one Redroof elsewhere made room for my ice packs in the employee break room. I'm not sure why all these motel corporations no longer buy mini-fridges without freezers given the number of people that travel with a bit of food or medicines that need to be kept cold during the day. That means, of course, that their freezer paks need to be refrozen at night.

Good Hotel and Nice Location

I’ve been staying at this location on and off for the past several years. They have made many Improvements to the rooms over that time. The staff has always been friendly and welcoming. If you need anything they will bring it to your room. Since, I stay at this location often, they try and give me the same room (which I like). Overall, I would recommend this location to anyone staying in the Northbrook/Deerfield area. Michael T
