Beat the Front

We needed to get out ahead of a pending snowstorm in our home area. I picked this place because it was close (walking distance) to where we would eat that night. That's it. The rooms are small as stated many times but for one night. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. Check in was easy as I made reservations through Red Roof. The breakfast was very good by motel standards. Eggs, sausage, waffles etc.

Frustrated

The hotel location is great, but the front desk and reservations are a mess. We booked it through Hotels.com and the hotel charged me more than I had reserved it for even though we had a copy of the Hotels.com reservation. I still haven't gotten my refund yet. Plus our reservations were not correct when we got there.

Comfortable stay but furniture needs help

First, I would give this place a good rating if it was available. We arrived on a miserably cold and rainy night and were greeted by a friendly clerk. We liked the mid-century modern look of the lobby and saw a group of people enjoying drinks in the lounge, but we did not stop in. Our room was on the second floor with tiny windows that were near the ceiling of both the living area and the separate bedroom and overlooking a roof. The room was decorated with mid-century modern furniture, but it was old and worn. Additionally, the room was painted a dull brown. I'm not sure why someone would have selected dull brown with a dull brown futon for a sofa, but someone did and it's ugly and tired. The carpet was also dull and dirty in spots. We also found several outlets did not work when we attempted to charge our phones. But, there was good. The bed was comfortable, although the sheets need to fit better, and it was really quiet. When we had trouble with our coffee maker (someone had thrown away the plastic tray where the coffee pods go), an employee immediately found a replacement for us. Breakfast was good with a room host who was attentive and friendly, although I did hear him say he was leaving soon. Parking is free and across the street. Historic sites are within walking distance. We enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to stay here again. Hopefully when we return new furniture will be in place. I know this hotel was sold recently (we found out because I called to confirm our reservation and found we did not have a reservation because the former owner did not transfer over the booking), so hopefully, a reboot is in order.

Only The Lobby

We were not too happy about much in this hotel except he lobby. It looked comfy and contemporary, but we never spent time in it. Actually, the second night it was closed to a private event. At check in were were offered a room and went to it. The stench from cigarettes was unbearable. So back to the desk for another room where we were told they do not enforce smoking rules. Our new room was on the 7th floor. Aside from the keys not working regularly, the room was a patchwork of furniture. No two pieces matched. A small dresser, rather than a night table, was at the side of the bed closest to the adjoining room's door and actually blocked the door. Now we wonder if that door was not lockable. Lamps were not plugged in and one was hard to plug in without moving the bed. The single upholstered chair had stains. The rugs were new looking but not well vacuumed. The bed sheets did not fit especially well and the mattress cover did not stay in place. The elastic anchors were torn off. Now about breakfast..... We ate there two out of our three days stay. The food was freshly cooked, but there was no toaster. When we asked for a toaster, we seemed to stir a nest of hornets. The staff said it had been broken for weeks and they were awaiting a new one. Reception said it had just broken. Mmmm, there was no toaster the first day either. We arrived for our second day's breakfast a bit later than the first day. There was not much food left. I heard undertones of people expecting more food, yet management might have been limiting amounts prepared. Reception also told us that the hotel had been sold and would soon be under new management. So our conclusion: do not stay here until some company who wants to improve the property does so, and does it quickly. The next best thing besides the nice looking lobby was the location.

First stay, but won't be last

In town for a small event Saturday, we needed a place to sleep overnight on Friday. After reading other reviews and seeing photos we chose this hotel. We were not disappointed. Actually we were so impressed with our first night that when we decided to stay one more night for a safe trip home we didn't hesitate to head back to see if they had a room available for the night. Very much enjoyed the James Bond/Mad Men vibe of this hotel, definitely playing on the architecture of the building. Every employee we came in contact with was super nice and very helpful. The room was comfortable and just what we needed. No fridge, but a single cup coffee maker with coffee and tea options was a welcome delight on a cold night. Cable and wifi helped pass a few hours before bed. Woke up to a fantastic hot and cold breakfast buffet. The options were pretty on point for a normal breakfast buffet, but everything was mighty tasty. Plenty if parking on both sides of the hotel and really interesting sites to see within walking distance of the hotel. We enjoyed our stay and will definitely stay again.
