Get Thee to the Junkyard

Though I have lodged here several times over the past two or three decades, first for work and then for personal reasons, I think I will need to lodge elsewhere the next time. The State House Inn has many things going for it which kept me coming back: good location near the Amtrak station, Capitol building and Lincoln museum; low rates; a full buffet breakfast; and cordial staff. These pluses get them their three stars. However, their lack of updating furnishings and a generally deteriorating appearance have reached a tipping point. The couch in our Suite appeared to be sagging severely so I gingerly tried it out and sank to the floor and could not get back up without assistance. Even Goodwill would not accept this couch as a donation. It needs to go to the junkyard; hence the subject line. It should be removed. Some of the wall outlets do not work. I learned that the hard way after attempting to charge my cell phone. The water in the shower barely reached lukewarm temperature. Staff state that major renovations are coming soon. Let’s hope so.

I was really liking this place until..

I am in the middle of my stay at this hotel. The first night there was a dog barking and although the finally dealt with it the guy at the front desk kept asking me where it was coming from. They should know who has pets and who doesnt. Super annoying. Then I came up to get into bed and found that there are dried blood stains on the underside of my comforter. That is just beyond gross. I have two beds so I am hoping that the other bed has better linens. Anyway not my favorite hotel..

We needed to get out ahead of a pending snowstorm in our home area. I picked this place because it was close (walking distance) to where we would eat that night. That's it. The rooms are small as stated many times but for one night. It was clean and the bed was comfortable. Check in was easy as I made reservations through Red Roof. The breakfast was very good by motel standards. Eggs, sausage, waffles etc.

Frustrated

The hotel location is great, but the front desk and reservations are a mess. We booked it through Hotels.com and the hotel charged me more than I had reserved it for even though we had a copy of the Hotels.com reservation. I still haven't gotten my refund yet. Plus our reservations were not correct when we got there.

Comfortable stay but furniture needs help

First, I would give this place a good rating if it was available. We arrived on a miserably cold and rainy night and were greeted by a friendly clerk. We liked the mid-century modern look of the lobby and saw a group of people enjoying drinks in the lounge, but we did not stop in. Our room was on the second floor with tiny windows that were near the ceiling of both the living area and the separate bedroom and overlooking a roof. The room was decorated with mid-century modern furniture, but it was old and worn. Additionally, the room was painted a dull brown. I'm not sure why someone would have selected dull brown with a dull brown futon for a sofa, but someone did and it's ugly and tired. The carpet was also dull and dirty in spots. We also found several outlets did not work when we attempted to charge our phones. But, there was good. The bed was comfortable, although the sheets need to fit better, and it was really quiet. When we had trouble with our coffee maker (someone had thrown away the plastic tray where the coffee pods go), an employee immediately found a replacement for us. Breakfast was good with a room host who was attentive and friendly, although I did hear him say he was leaving soon. Parking is free and across the street. Historic sites are within walking distance. We enjoyed our stay and would not hesitate to stay here again. Hopefully when we return new furniture will be in place. I know this hotel was sold recently (we found out because I called to confirm our reservation and found we did not have a reservation because the former owner did not transfer over the booking), so hopefully, a reboot is in order.
