Good Location and Value

We stayed here while visiting the Lincoln Museum. The hotel was in a great location, right in downtown. The room was very nice, clean and comfterable. Might be a little bit dated but no real problems, still a good value. The thermostat in our room did not work but they moved us right away. Everything else was problem free. The free breakfast they served was very good, scrambled eggs, bacon, hash browns, biscuits, cereal and so on. It had lots of free parking. We would stay here again if in the area.

A very nice and very clean hotel in a great location for walking

We stayed here for 2 nights to meet extended family and visit lincoln sites. Hotel staff was welcoming and pleasant. Rooms were clean and comfortable, and hotel was quiet. We had a nice view of the historic district from the top floor. Hotel is walking distance from just about everything. We started every morning with a nice long walk through adjoining neighborhoods, trees were in full bloom and historic houses were interesting. We wished that the breakfast offerings were healthier and the coffee a bit stronger brew( breakfast staffers were very nice).

Clean and modern hotel

I stayed here for one night for a conference In Springfield. It is a great location downtown. It is close to attractions and restaurants. The hotel is very modernly decorated especially the lobby. There is a lobby bar and restaurant open in the evenings. My room was very clean and spacious however I had to move rooms because the water Temperature in the bathroom was only scolding hot. The front desk handled it quickly and efficiently. There is plenty of free parking and a complimentary hot breakfast. I would definitely stay here again and suggest it to others visiting Springfield. The staff was friendly and helpful.

2 night work stay

The lobby is beautiful, and the room was adequate though not well cleaned. We found hair that didn't belong to us in the bed and the floors weren't properly vacuumed. When I went to the gym it smelled of mold or mildew, there was water damage on the ceiling, and a tile was literally hanging down. Needless to say I didn't take the risk of trying to work out there. The staff was nice but a couple times there was no one at the front desk and I had to wait (about a minute or less) to check in and again about 3 minutes to request things for the room (that time no one showed and I followed the instructions on the sign to call them using the phone behind me - all too peculiar). We didn't tLe advantage of the complimentary breakfast. I never seem to have better than slight below average experiences at Red Roof Inns. This is my second and hopefully last experience with this chain. Ok for a quick stay ONLY.

Unbelievably horrible experience

Our family hosted a farewell and retirement ceremony after 34 years in the Military and as Adjutant General of Illinois. We had guests staying at the Red Roof Inn and due to hotel overbooking family was turned away and front desk was rude, almost hostile. Her comment was “I just work here.” I had previously been into the hotel at 2pm to verify the rooms were available. They had my credit card. With no explanation that evening one of our rooms had been given away. No other accommodations were attempted. And when leaving after rude and unapologetic service the next person in line somehow had a room available. I called the 800 number and was told we did have a valid reservation but when he called over to find out the issue he was also treated rudely. He assured me my credit card would not be charged. Imagine my dismay when I received an email the next morning saying my reservation was cancelled and my credit card charged for two nights! I’ve left numerous messages to the GM and over course no action. We went back to the hotel in the morning and the front desk said we had not been charged even though the email came from them and my VISA is pending charges. I would not recommend State House Inn. They’ve clearly forgotten what hospitality means.
