You get what you pay for . . . . .
November 14, 2017

First impression was entering the lobby and seeing the clerk behind "bullet" proof glass, so we were off to a rousing start. Room was dingy, bathroom floor was not clean, beds were not comfortable, locks/doors were flimsy, and there was a 1 1/2 inch gap at bottom of our door to the outside. The size of the room was good, but that's about it. Small flat screen tv (25 inches?). The free breakfast was apples, oranges, still frozen pastries, yogurt. Staff was indifferent. Exercise room had 3 things, was also dingy and depressing. That said, the location to U of Maryland was great - and it was about 2 miles to CitiBank Field. But, next time we will choose to stay elsewhere.

DO NOT STAY THERE! WARNING! Employees seem to be a part of a SCAMMER BUSINESS!
October 13, 2017

WARNING! Employees seem to be a part of a SCAMMER BUSINESS! First of all I did not expect a whole lot from a place for 100 USD per night. You can judge the cleanliness from the my photos... but we actually did receive a bit more than we paid, unfortunately that was something that shouldn’t happen to anyone, it was disturbing and a bit scary. We stayed there for 3 nights, the second night (around 1:15 am) the land line inside our room called. My wife and I were both sleeping, when I answered the call. Guy introduced himself as front desk telling me that there is a problem with our reservation, that they are IN POSSESION OF THE COPY OF MY PASSPORT, but somehow the reservation got cancelled and that he needs for me to confirm it and provide them AGAIN with my credit card information. Firstly I have asked him does he realize what time it is, he apologized and then continued, I told him that I will check with them personally first thing in the morning. He categorically replied that they need to confirm it right now, because I shouldn't be staying in that joint at all. To that I replied that I will get dressed and be there in two minutes, NOPE he said we can do it over the phone, to that I said that I will NOT give him any information over the phone... CLICK - he hung up. Immediately I dialled 0 to reach the front desk, person on duty was also a male and I cannot be 100% sure but he almost sounded like the one that just called my room. I was woke up by that, disturbed by somebody telling me that my reservation does not exist in the middle of the night, made me think it's true because he mentioned the thing with my passport, who else if not somebody from the RedRoofInn could have that information? Who else could know that we are foreigners etc.? No- there was nobody else present when I checked us in at the reception, I remember that. Anyway I told what have just happened to the guy that answered the phone after calling the front desk. He said that It wasn't them (him/RedRoof), that he apologizes for the inconvenience, he will get to the bottom of this by checking phone records and calling the police since nobody from the outside can call any room directly- every outside call has to come through the switchboard (front desk) and that he DID NOT put any call thought... somebody from the inside of the hotel must have dialled my room number to call it directly... I said OK, what am I supposed to do now? I was a little freaked out, since that It could be my next door neighbour, maybe I was under surveillance etc. as I wrote - a bit freaked out. Couldn't sleep almost all night, decided to call back front desk again after an hour or something, same guy answered and told me that the police is on site and that they are checking everything, I told him to let me know if I could be in any assistance. Nobody called or knocked on the door, I think it was for the better. The very early morning I went to the front desk, different person was on duty, I demanded for the manager to call me asap. Nobody called... the whole day. I was informed that the same night shift guy will be there on our last night too. I deceived to confront him, also managed to record our conversation, again he told me: It was not him, my reservation is fine, nobody called from the outside, must have been somebody from the hotel (other guest he meant), police was there - they have knocked on several doors etc. found nobody... when we were checking out from the freak show the next day, I finally got to talk in person to the General Manager Alicia Williams she was nice but had a totally different story for me... there was no police it was the RedRoof security, they do not keep phone call records, that it is possible to call any room directly from the outside... when I told Alicia that her employee has a completely different story she tried to call him with no luck, she was not following my lead that in my opinion the same night shift guy must have been involved or something, also I told her that I will report it to corporate and authorities, It is too serious and suspicious situation to be left just like that...

Roomy but Dated
July 10, 2017

We stayed one night at this hotel. So the positive things about this hotel is that the staff was friendly, and the room was large. It was really spacious for a hotel room. Ironically the bathroom was small and tight, but the sink was inside the bathroom. The room decor was dated. It really could use some new furniture and linens. They also offer a free continental breakfast which we did not take advantage of since we got in so late and opted to sleep. We will probably not return to this hotel in the future until they update the rooms. Also, they need to check the hair dryer because there was a bug stuck inside a part of it. This was room 205.

Clean and comfortable
June 22, 2017

I was a little skeptical when I was told the Red Roof Inn had been scheduled for our visit to College Park for National History Day, but it was nice, clean, comfortable and conveniently located near the University of Maryland and the metro that will take you quickly in to D.C. The beds are comfortable but the pillows could use some fluff. Outside is extremely well lit at night and seems to be safe. Pool with lifeguard is open at certain times. In-room safe for personal item security, as well as a refrigerator and microwave. They do have breakfast on-site, but I did not have an opportunity to try that because of our schedule. Staff was EXTREMELY polite and helpful. My ONLY concern was with a few guests that seemed to hang over the top walkway with beer in hand without the presence of hotel security. I would stay there again!

Motel style with outdoor room entrances.
June 14, 2017

This review is from my stay of 7 nights in July 2016. Keep in mind that this is my personal opinion based solely upon my needs & perceptions. When booking a place I usually have a specific area in mind and then the cost of the room dictates where I'll choose. For my pretty much yearly vacations to Washington DC - I've been staying in College Park, Md. I go during the late spring or summer so university students are much less than during the school year and the hotels/motels much less filled. Free parking, wifi & on or near Baltimore Ave are big selling points for me. After making the reservation, I contacted the hotel directly to let them know that I would be having a motorized scooter dropped off and would PREFER to have a room on the 1st floor - but it would be fine if none were available. I called the day before my arrival also and was satisfied it would be done for me. It was. The woman at the desk was super friendly and nice and said she'd put me in a room around the back with easy access. I got the scooter - loaded it into my car (where it stays - I just take the battery out to recharge in my room) and headed to the room to drop my stuff off and use the bathroom. UH OH. I never thought to say that I really really really wanted a bathtub and not a handicapped stall. It was completely my own fault for not specifying. I realized that the hotel was really trying to meet my potential needs and took it as a lesson in being specific. The room itself was definitely not renovated in a very long time. The door to the outside had gaps and the lock had been changed way too many times (you could see where the original key locks had been and the replacement locks and other replacement locks as tech changed. The bed was great. I hated the handicapped bathroom. It was great for a handicapped bathroom - very large space, stand up shower you could use a wheelchair in, or stool... but I hated it for me. The more space I have, the more stuff I end up with. Probably great for others - I hated it for me. For the price - it is a decent place to stay. Definitely not luxury. But not horrendous either.
