I stayed in this hotel for two nights for a last-minute Labor Day trip to the Poconos. I selected this hotel because it was literally the only place I could find with a room close to Jim Thorpe, where I had intended to stay. The room was $90 a night, which was really too much to pay given the state of the hotel and the location. The hotel is part of a sprawling complex with a wedding (etc.) venue in the back. The main building had a nice lobby with a large fireplace, a mezzanine (didn't go up there) and a breakfast room. There are "cottages" attached to the main building that appear to be larger for families, and there is a similar building next to the pool. I stayed in one of the two "motel" buildings with standard rooms. At the back is a large venue that seems to be for weddings and similar events. This looks like it was built back in the 80s to have served as a venue for events such as weddings and reunions. I think it became a Red Roof recently, and it is clear that it has been remodeled. Our bathroom had been retiled with a more modern look and the everything was fine there except for a non-working lamp. It seemed they had just re-tarred the vast parking lot, and they should have blocked off where I parked, because a bit of tar and gravel stuck to my tire, which I had to scrape off. The breakfast is the usual sort of roadside motel horror--packaged danishes, waffles, reconstituted eggs, warmed-over sausages. There are a couple of restaurants across the street but I didn't try them. The neighborhood is mostly strip malls. This is a pretty run-down area, but in general the whole town seems run down, so I think it is par for the course. I would have been happier if the room had been $70. That would have been fair for the condition of the accommodations and the neigbborhood.

Our Worst Stay of ANYWHERE We Have Ever Stayed

This place is a mixed bag. This is not your normal hotel with all of the rooms on one building. it is a conglomerate of buildings. The office area is fairly nice. There are 4 buildings. The first is a single level Swiss Chalet style; 2 are brick and I didn’t see the 4th building. We walked into the entryway to get to our room and was accosted by a strong perfume odor. We went inside our room to find out this was not the type of room that we booked. By just a quick look around we could tell this was an old building that was not well maintained. We saw bulges in the wall paper, patches on the wall and on the outside cheap building materials crumbling apart. We went to the front desk to get our room straighten out. Mike, who works the front desk tried to be accommodating but, had to work through his manager to get our room straighten out. This took at least 20 minutes and I believe closer to 30 minutes. We were "upgraded" to a king kitchenette at no extra charge. This room is in an old brick building but, in better condition than the previous building. Upon entering our room we thought it was much better. We were wrong. The light fixture on the lampstand as you enter the room was falling apart. We discovered that there was a missing board under the carpet at the breakfast bar and the only thing keeping you from falling through the floor was the carpet. Shiny aluminum foil covered all of the stove eye pans. The kitchen cabinets had food left in them. Who knows how long it has been there. There's a wet spot next to the tub behind the toilet that stays wet all of the time because the tub is lot level and any water that lands on the back edge drips on to the floor. Also the water tank on the toilet leaks when you flush the toilet. The light in the bathroom is on a timer and it shut off in the middle of my shower. The drain stop in the sink was broken off so you can't fill the sink with water. The mattress at least on my wife’s side was worn out. The worst thing was when we turned on that air conditioner you could smell the residual odor of cigarette smoke in a "non-smoking' room. I pulled out the filters in both air conditioner units and the filters were completely blocked with a thick layer of dust. I couldn't see light through them without holding them up to a bright light. So, I took them to the front desk expecting to get some new filters. Mike called the maintenance guy and he said they didn't have any filters. The air conditioner coils behind the filters were also covered with dust. The next morning the maintenance man reinstalled the filters after cleaning them. Obviously we chose to not stay the second night that we had booked. Breakfast is included with the room. This is what I can remember was available. Apple and orange juices, coffee, instant oatmeal, 2 kinds of cold cereal, lite fruit yogurt, bagels, pastries, bread for toast, eggs, and batter to make waffles. On the weekend sausage and bacon are also served. The staff was friendly and tried to be helpful but, are not empowered to make decisions for themselves and had to call management to get decisions made. In all reality this is the absolute worst room and total hotel stay experience that we have ever had! There is nothing for children here, no physical training area, I didn't see any customer computer access ( they could have had it and I didn't see it), there was not even a pen and pad of paper in the room, and no shuttles to anywhere. This is just your basic place to sleep and not very good at that! The only redeeming quality of this place is that it is situated directly across the street from Alfredo's Brick Oven Pizza and Ristorante. I will soon write a separate review for this awesome place to eat. I have requested to not have to pay for our stay that one night per Red Roof Inn's policy for guests to have a pleasant stay. I not sure how that will work out. I can absolutely not recommend staying in this hotel.

Overall, the room was adequate but I can not give it any higher than a 3. The first thing I noticed was the block of rooms that we were sent to did not have an outside door that was locked. There was no slot to open the door with the key card, thus, as far as I could tell anyone could come in. It looked like it was the oldest unit for the complex which had several stand-alone units but should be updated for security. The room had a slight smell to it although I could not tell what it was. It was clean, the AC worked well, TV and WIFI were very good. It would be a good idea to invest in some new sheets. Check-in was fine with an efficient and helpful clerk. He also was quick to help me with restaurant recommendations.

Help taking the stress off our shoulders.

Sunny the manager,, cannot be more helpful and compassionate to us when we were dealing with stress in our lives. We were driving down interstate 81 when we hit a pothole the size of a car, and blew out both tires on the driver side. It was very stressful for my wife,me and our fur babies. ( Japanese chins.)
