To be closer to see our son who lives within few miles of Lake Charles we contacted the Red Roof Inn in Sulphur. We called direct as we find at times can get better deals then discount places.when we did look on line first found that the on line web site for the place was miss leading in what the hotel actually have.when called found that they were in middle of construction on hotel but majority of work was done. We stayed there in a newly renovated room which was very pleasant. The staff was very helpful and went out if there way to help in our needs. Even though they didn't have breakfast there coffe was always hot they have food places next door. The only suggestion I gave was they needed better ramps for handicap accessible to get in front door.Id stay there again next time going to that area .

This place is horrible. We have been weekly guests for months now. During our time here the status has went from bad to worse. The rates have went up. There’s construction on the second floor so it’s noisy all day. Our phone doesn’t work. Housekeeping is either banging on doors to eagerly present themselves and still doesn’t actually do their jobs. This is with the ‘do not disturb/privacy please’ posted on the door. Managers made it mandatory for housekeeping to enter 4 days a week regardless of the guests request. Night shift workers who, like us are trying to rest during these hours really do not want to be disturbed. We were told by hotel management we would be accommodated after 3pm but that hasn’t been honored. We have requested our room to be cleaned while we were gone for days, only to find our same ‘dirty’ linens on the bed. We’ve been locked out numerous times, even though we pay every Friday since June like clock work. There’s no breakfast as advertised on the site. The hotel isn’t up to code and the fire alarm goes off continuously. 15 times in 4 hours one morning. That’s not what someone who has worked 12 hours wants to deal with. The local fire department was here for days doing an hourly walk through for fire watch because the system failed. The owners did not have a permit for construction and it was publicly posted the hotel was not up to code. The rates went up because the second floor had to be evacuated so they had to compensate for the monetary loss. The ‘newly renovated’ rooms are a joke. The sink doesn’t drain. The faucet is oddly placed so water gets everywhere if you aren’t exact on turning it on. The rooms at first glance look nice but it is only a layer of deceit. The ‘new’ mattresses look like they came from a dumpster. Mildew is growing on the bed skirts and the air conditioner. The front desk employees who smoke are rarely at the desk. They fraternize with the guest and the good employees are overlooked and mistreated here. I am livid. After driving 5 hours and arriving back to my room after midnight the ‘clean’ beds had to be stripped from everything because of the mold and mildew on them. The owners are greedy, unprofessional, and they aren’t concerned with what is best for their guests. I’m here from necessity but other travelers should know what to expect. I have not been wanting to post this type of review but some things can’t be avoided forever.

NASTY PLACE

Stayed here to watch our grandson play baseball in Surphur. Our first room had long strands of hair ( not ours) on the bed sheets and bedspread. The room smelled moldy and there was mold in corners if the room. Bathroom was just plain nasty. I requested another room and was assigned a room that appeared to be still under renovation, but not all work completed. The worst part of this room was the 3/8 inch gap between the door and the frame needles to say we did not a good night sleep. Warning...DO NOT STAY here.

Worst hotel stay ever

When we walked in to the room the buttons on the microwave were dirty. Ironically there was a card next to the microwave that said, "Joann, has taken extra care in cleaning your room" (or something to that effect) and I couldn't believe there was also an envelope suggesting that you leave a tip everyday for the room attendant. There was a heavily stained chair at the desk area in the room and soap scum in the tub. This place described as "modern rooms" in the hotel description had rust in the bathroom and a peeling bathtub. Check out photos for reference. Also, there was no hair dryer or coffee maker as stated in the room amenities. To top it off it was very noisy at night. We had to leave the vent on in the bathroom to try and drown out the noise. The hotel is right next to a Waffle House with the WH parking lot being right outside the window. We were woken up every night with loud trucks, peeling out in the parking lot and music so loud it rattled our window. We could hear talking in the lobby all night and even the front desk phone ringing and a barking dog. Not a pleasant stay at all.

The rooms are filthy. Had only 1 chair and so filthy I had to use 1 of their dingy see through towels to be able to sit on chair. Bathroom was disgusting. Could not take shower it was so badly need of repair. I have taken some pictures and in all of my travels this was the worst of the worst. First room they assigned me had not been cleaned. I should have left then. This was my first night on road never even considered staying at another RED ROOF INN. NEVER again
