Racism & Disrespect from the Front Desk

I made my reservation late on Friday night because I had been driving all day and was too tired to drive all the way to Columbus, OH. I arrived at the Inn at approximately 12:30 am (all I wanted was my room and sleep). As soon as I got to the lobby, the front desk failed to greet or even acknowledge me, I literary waited about four minutes before she even made eye contact with me. I informed the front desk that I made a prior reservation, so she asked for my ID and the credit card I used to make the reservation. I took our my temporary ID issued by the state of Indiana, and she immediately said I cannot take that paper. Did I ask her why? Since this was a legal document and I had even used at the airport. She said that she needed to scan the document. So I unfolded the documents and showed her the bar code. She then said, " I am not taking this document because it's not a valid document." I then told her that if she was not aware that this, in fact, is a legal document and unless she had a policy or a company handbook that prohibit this document, she could not turn me away. She immediately said, " Well, you people are always providing illegal document." Mind you, I took this very personal since I am Latino and I do not tolerate any type of racism. I immediately asked her to get a hold of her supervisor and to provide me with her name. She said she was not giving me my room until I provided her with a legal document. I continued to tell her that the temporary document was a legal document issued by the State of Indiana. She then said she was not calling her supervisor nor was going to give me her name. I had never in my entire life felt so disrespected and humiliated simply by the color of my skin. So of course, I told her that she picked on the wrong Latino because I am educated, know my rights, and I do not tolerate racism. She then continued to ignore me as I kept on asking about my room. Another guest walked in and asked what was going on, so I explained what happened and he said that he had checked in earlier with a temporary ID as well. So he went and got it from his room and showed it to her. So she said, " I don't care what you showed earlier, I am not giving HIM his room until he provides me with a valid and legal document." The other guest then said, "I cannot believe you are doing this to him, you were present when the other front desk took my temporary ID. Are you racist or what is your deal with him?" I then thanked the gentleman for standing up for me but it was impossible to even talk to her. I waited for more than an hour before I got my room. As I was walking away, I heard her say something like, "these Mexicans". I ignored her comment and went straight to my room. The best thing about this is that I have multiple recording from the interaction with this front desk employee. I am more than willing to share this with the corporate office and/or social media. Red Roof Inn, I implore that you look into this. Racism is not acceptable and I think it does not align with your Corporate values.

The manager at this location was so accomodationg and truly a wonderful person. I mentioned to the front deks employee and she mentioned that she thought she was great too. Clean room and great stay with friendly employees made my unplanned one night stay a great one.

Unless you enjoy marinating in cigarette smoke & cheap cologne/perfume—-DO NOT STAY HERE. I went back against my better judgment and read the reviews thinking it would be OK for a cheap one night stay. The cigarette smell was an instant headache. So I requested to change rooms and the second one was worse. The HVAC unit smelled horrible when turned on. It was also very noisy at night and there were stains on both bed sheets. I almost slept in the car— it really was that bad. I don’t usually do reviews on hotels unless they were very very good or very very bad. I understand this is a cheap hotel and you get what you pay for— but the customer reviews were four stars??? Try at your own risk but I got burned!!

They say the first person you meet at a hotel is the "face of the hotel". If that's true, they are totally screwed. The little red headed guy had such bad breath, I almost threw up in my mouth and to make matters worse, he wouldn't stop talking... about the sh*t show of a hotel he worked for. I had to lie and say I had to pee to get out of there. The smell was so offensive, it really should have been illegal!! Then the racist black woman in the morning had such a chip on her shoulder, you will would've thought I asked her to sign her kids over to me. I asked for a noon checkout and she said no then went on some rant about how her housekeepers wanted to go home too and that it was cold for them. I'm sorry, I forgot that when I stay at hotels, I have to put the employees needs first. Isn't that why they get paid or am I confused. I stayed there about a year ago and not one thing has changed. I think the manager is even scared of her. These people are the epitome of terrible customer service and the manager seems like a coward since nothing has changed. If you need a place to do illegal stuff, definitely go there. If your looking for a hospitable hotel, look elsewhere

Visit was good until the weekend, and then the next door neighbor was playing loud music, and has his door open that made it worse. Really obnoxious Neighbor, but I never called the Staff, so It could have been my fault.
