TripAdvisor Ratings

Very good
October 20, 2017

Big and nice clean room and bathroom. We loved the laminate flooring instead of carpets. Very pleasant atmosphere. Free W-Lan, good working. However no breakfast served. But about a mile away is a Bob Evans restaurant that is open all day. We would always come again.

Time to renovate and needs a good cleaning.

Pro's: low price, close to interstate, near food and shopping, desk staff very nice. Con's: Dirty, room stunk of cigarette smoke. Outdated. The smells in the room and mold in the heat/A/C unit gave me a bad sinus attack. Just a tired old hotel.

Two problems ruined my stay
October 03, 2017

I had previously stayed at this motel and found it quite acceptable. This time I experienced a couple problems. First, when I drove to my room I noticed a man milling around his car, with a large bird in a cage on the picnic table and an aggressively barking dog in the car. This was very close to my room and right at the edge of the grassy area where I wanted to walk my dog. I attempted to do that, but the combination of the barking dog in the car and the man moving around with no apparent purpose put my dog off. I went to my room and thought this man would be in his room soon, and I could use the common area. For four hours I observed this guy, nearly always outside the car, doing nothing in particular. By the time it got dark I was getting a little concerned for myself, and my dog was still upset by the odd behavior of the man and the barking of the dog. I went to the lobby and told the man at the desk about this situation, and he pointed out that there was nothing illegal about a man lurking around outdoors, etc. He offered to go look to see what was going on. Clearly this guy did not have a room. On the way back to my room my dog finally found a quieter spot to relieve himself, and I got back to my room safely, so I called the man at the desk and told him not to bother. The guy and his dog, bird and car were still out there in the morning, so I assume he slept in his car. I was very put off by this. Also, the air conditioner in the room did not seem to be working, and no matter what setting I put it on the room remained warm and stuffy. I complained about that, and about the man outside, when I checked out, and the woman at the desk said she would tell the manager about the man, and also said they turn the air conditioning off at night because it is cool enough outside! I said the lack of climate control and the uncomfortable situation of the strange man and his dog in the car outside my room made for an unpleasant stay. She did not even say she was sorry. This is not what I expect from a Red Roof. I have stayed in some very nice Red Roofs, most are decent to good, and a few are bad. I am starting to become concerned that Red Roofs are becoming the new Motel 6. Which is not a good thing.

Second time around...
September 15, 2017

We stayed here in 2016 during the Vintage Ohio wine festival. Our room was dirty and I had many issues trying to reach the hotel directly by phone. I wrote a less than stellar review on TripAdvisor and was contacted by the hotel regarding my review. The manager apologized for the dirtiness of the room and explained that the hotel was experiencing phone issues during my previous stay. I was given a discount for a future stay to give them a second chance--so I did. The phone issue was fixed and the room was (at first glance) cleaner. My fiancee had to pull the fridge out from the wall to plug in his laptop and the attached picture shows you what he found underneath it. I give them credit for contacting me to address my issues and the fact that the overall room cleanliness was better. I suggest they advise the cleaning staff to pull out fridge and clean under it, too. Other than that, it was a better experience this year.

Budget Hotel With a Few Problems
September 13, 2017

This hotel is conveniently located adjacent to the interstate with a Burger King next door and a few other uninteresting, spread out businesses. The 2-story buildings have exterior room entrances and small windowed rooms with no view, forming a complex that is more efficient than attractive. There is a small office with hot drinks on offer, but no breakfast provided. My guest room had a firm, comfortable bed, working wifi, cable TV, phone, hot water shower, and work desk - making it adequately functionable. There was no traffic, loud music, or noise problems during my stay, although arriving/departing guests in the parking lot could pose some noise potential in the mornings. This could and should be an average 3 star value hotel, but certain flaws contributed to my low rating. Despite booking months in advance, my 2nd floor room preference was not accommodated. Upon entry into the room, it was noticeably bad smelling. The floor was sticky and grossly dirty - as evidenced by a wet washcloth test. The bathtub bottom was brown with uncleaned grime and dirt. There was no hair dryer, iron, or board, and few toiletries. For the cheapest place around to stay, its a doable hotel, but it certainly does not justify any 4 or 5 star rating.
