Dog Show Home

Another great visit in Chipley at the Red Roof Inn. They are always so nice and accommodating to our dogs. We appreciate that so much. They have worked very hard to take the broke down Executive Inn and turn it into a very nice Red Roof. Sure there still may be a few things that need to be fixed, but if you let management know, they are on it. We will be back again. Hopefully there will be two dog shows in the future too. Thanks so much for all you do!

Friendly staff

First the positives: the staff (the two I saw anyway) were friendly and pleasant and did credit to the property. The sheets were clean. The bed was reasonably comfortable. The heat, refrigerator and wifi worked. However, the popcorn was falling off the bathroom ceiling. None of the lights came on when I flipped the switch by the door an I tripped on a table trying to find a lamp in the dark. One of the lamps didn't work at all. The towels could have been cleaner; there was, apparently, some tissues or toilet paper in the laundry because I had a snowfall of paper fragments all over the tiny bathroom when I unfolded the towel. The bath tub was dangerously slippery until the water ran for a while. I almost fell twice. I suspect the housekeeper sprayed the cleaning stuff on the tub but didn't rinse it afterward. You really need to rinse it so no one gets hurt. The door didn't want to close tight without extra force. The walls had scrapes and inexpert patches and really need to be redone. The glow in the dark stars on the ceiling were an interesting touch. One end of the window curtain was hanging off the track; it still closed enough but looked bad. Also, watch your step on the stairway. There's a weird step at the bottom that's about 1 inch off the ground that's really a trip hazard. Even so, it was a safe haven for one night but the one thing that really bothered me was the tip envelope. I won't get into a debate over whether or not guests at hospitality venues should be expected to pay more money toward the salary of employees than they've already paid for the goods or services and if someone wants to tip, fine, but this room had an envelope, not only specifically stating that it was for tips for the housekeepers (and bearing the company logo, so it was obviously done with the knowledge of the company) but it also "reminded" the guest that the etiquette books say that you should tip $2-5 a day and that you should tip every day so the person who cleans your room is the one to get the tip (although that doesn't guarantee that the person who cleaned your room before you checked in, thus doing the work you tip for, gets any of it, it's more of an anticipatory tip, I guess). This is what is referred to as busking. It's not illegal but it's very bad practice. I worked in a tipped industry and busking was strictly forbidden and was a firing offense. The word "tip" was never to be mentioned to a guest unless he/she specifically asked and EVERY guest got the same service, whether they tipped or not. That's the way a classy organization does it (or they pay the help enough and eliminate tipping.) Anyway, it was survivable for one night. The staff was nice, It just needs a lot of work and most people wouldn't be thrilled to pay even what they charge (which isn't bad) to be "reminded" to cough up some more.

Not our best experience for an overnight

In all fairness, this hotel is still struggling after Hurricane Michael hit the panhandle last year. I was very disappointed that in spite of being “repaired and remodeled” our room was in such bad shape cleanliness wise. The wood floor was dirty and I had to wear my flip flops unless I was in bed. We killed 3 small roaches, but this is Florida so that didn’t freak me out. The bathroom vent was hanging down from the ceiling in the bathroom. The shower was strong and hot, though. The toilet seat was loose. Toiletries were provided but no coffee setup. The bed and pillows were the best part of our stay. Very comfy and looked clean. Hopefully, the owner of this Red Roof Inn monitors housekeeping and maintenance better in the future and continues to update the property.

Spent two nights. Most comfortable beds, ever. All the necessary extras. Hair dryer which I don't need, Ironing board, coffe and tea, etc. Staff was super. Only had coffee for breakfast but that helped my diet. Looking forward to the next visit. I don't know the rate as the wrestling promotor paid.
