After a horrendous 1st day in New York this place was a shining light!! We had an awful experience with a place in Queens that was previously booked but once arriving found it to be uninhabitable to say the least. Trying to find a place to stay in NY that was less than $500 a night is not an easy task when it's last minute!!! We decided to stay in New Jersey and it was a great decision to say the least!! We had a few hiccups in the rooms (I'll elaborate further in a bit) but the girl who checked us in handled them fabulously (Cheers Danica!!!) One thing to know about this place: the rooms are numbered EXTREMELY weird!!! It is NOT easy to navigate around the outdoor hallways and the signage doesn't direct you well at all!!! A huge bonus though? There is amazing food choices right across the road (I highly recommend Bella Restaurant for homemade Italian food)!!! We commuted to NY every day of our stay: Uber to and from the NJ Transit station $6-9 each way, train was $8.50 return. The bus stop is right across the street IF you catch it early; it stops going there at 9am I believe, and the next closest one is quite a long ways away (found that out after 7 hours of hauling 70 pounds of luggage each, up and down stairs all over the NY subways and then walking several blocks from the bus stop trying to find this hotel at 10pm!!) Now, the room we ended up with was the 3rd one we checked into for this stay and it was decent. The 1st one (with a great view of the river at night I might add!) had a non-flushing toilet so Danica changed us to another one around the corner that ended up being full of pet hair (both beds were totally covered). She decided to upgrade us at no charge for all the hassle we'd been through and it was a nice treat! Room was decent for size, everything worked in it (no bathtub plug though, so showers only), and had a little treat box. The issues I had were housekeeping coming quite early or not at all, only getting decaf coffee unless we requested normal coffee, and rude housekeeping staff when we were checking out. We requested a late checkout as our flight wasn't until 5pm (they agreed to noon) but housekeeping argued with us about it at about 10:30am saying they were there to clean and we should be checking out (normal check-out time is 11am so I'm not sure why they were even there yet) and when we were wheeling our very large luggage down the hall, the housekeeping lady wouldn't move her cart of the way and just watched us struggle to wheel our stuff around her on the rocky decorative area beside the sidewalk. The manager was very friendly and helpful as were all the girls at the front desk so cheers to them!! All in all, I'd recommend this place; beds were comfy, pillows too, staff (aside from housekeeping) were friendly, quiet stay even tho the road is right there, nice view of the river, and it was affordable.

very nice place to stay while visiting NYC, only a short bus ride away

We looked at staying in NYC, but the prices... Then decided to search outwards a bit. This place appeared to fit the bill, reasonable cost, easy access to the bus that takes you to the Port Authority main depot, which puts you in NYC and full access to the subway and tour buses. The room was a bit small compared to some Plus rooms, but it worked find to the two of us. Wifi was good, Breakfast was available just across the street. Lots of parking spaces, The manager (Bill) was very friendly and helpful. The only thing he forgot to tell us was to ask for the senior's rate on the bus ($3.10 return vs $7.00). We enjoyed our stay, did end up going home a day early due to continued rain, making the walking around town a little too hard. We would stay again. A note about the safe in the room, like a lot of Red Roofs, there is an additional fee for the use.

Its dirty, and far from the bus stop.

3-day stay. The room is smaller than it looks, and the AC unit was noisy. There were stains on pillows, and what looks like a blood stain on the wall (I posted a picture). There were also cracks on the ceiling. The carpeted floor was kind of gross, would not recommend walking barefoot. The toilet clogged, which I've never had to deal with in a hotel. The TV channels were glitchy. The bus stop for bus 129 (which takes you to Manhattan) is kind of far, about 12-15 min walk. It was also one of the cheapest hotels in the area.

Excellent value. Very clean facilities. Excellent customer service by all employees, especially the front desk. They were very attentive and ensured we made affordable, efficient and timely connections to NYC. Approximately a short 25 minute bus ride to NYC. Several affordable food options across from the hotel. Would stay there again.

Ticked all the boxes!

Red Roof fulfilled its purpose for our stay here. It is extremely close to amenities such as subway, dunkins, Wendy's and other restaurants, and is close to Secaucus town centre. The room (superior king) is big enough for two people comfortably and was clean. The bed was very comfy and despite reviews talking about cigarette smoke, we did not encounter this issue. Reading these reviews can be off putting for some. Only slight annoyance is the aircon is quite loud and this can wake light sleepers during the night, and the toilet sometimes needs two flushes but these are minor. We would definitely return! Thanks to Red Roof for their hospitality.
