Hidden away but easily accessible and close to whatever your heart desires...
May 15, 2018

Decided to try this Red Roof Inn based on comparing prices of hotels in the area and last minute availability. We were just looking for a clean room for the night after attending an event in nearby Scotia, NY. We were warmly greeted, offered coffee or tea and had a quick check in to a very comfortable, good size room. I had a problem with one of the vending machines, which was quickly and efficiently handled by the check in clerk. It was a great experience...hidden away from all the traffic on o very busy road, but so close as to be easily accessible to stores, restaurants and travel. In recognition of wonderful staff employed here, when I returned home, I realized that I had lost my gold bracelet. I took a chance and called them. The housekeeper had found it and turned it in. It was mailed back to me by the general manager and received in perfect condition! It has great sentimental value and I never thought I'd see it again. Great, honest staff...thank you for a wonderful stay.

Exactly what you would expect

Good quality budget rate hotel. Room as well as the rest of the facility was clean and neat. I even inquired about the pit bull mentioned in the reviews, after not seeing it all night and morning. They explained that the owner and the dog have moved on. so no more issues with that. internet was blazing fast. nice flat screen with all the channels. Breakfast was limited on protein, and high on the carbs, but for what i paid for the night, there is no problem for a quick stay.

I did not feel SAFE - game playing going on here
December 26, 2017

I've been working in Albany this month and came here on this trip after having driven a long distance through snow and sleet in late afternoon. I stayed 2 days. I did not feel safe - let me explain: Check-in: As I pulled up to the secluded property, tucked behind large trees and on icy roads, I got out and a blonde lady with a pony tail was standing outside smoking. I went inside, she followed, and said she'd get somebody to check me in. DK, the General Manager arrived and checked me in. His pit bull was with him. Our exchange was mostly pleasant and quick. The blonde lady was watching from afar. I appreciated her getting DK. Room: The room seemed OK but dated and was on the ground floor close to the lobby. You could hear everything from inside. The bathroom is laid out kind of strange with bathtub & toilet in one room and the small sink area a distance away and next to the front the door. Floors are carpeted in the room. Small refrigerator and microwave. Exhausted, I rested for a bit before heading back out. As I left the same blonde lady was loitering outside my door, I think listening. It almost seemed like she was fake-pretending to have a conversation with someone down the hall. She didn't acknowledge me which is fine. I was still unclear who she was or what her role was there. Strange. From there, it kept getting weirder. The next day after being out I arrived to my room to find the same blonde lady standing outside the room next to mine. She just stood there and starred directly at a cleaning lady whose cart was halfway inside that room (where I don't think anybody had stayed - this is not their busy season). It felt very staged. Blonde lady did not shift her gaze at all while the cleaning lady just stood there and gave me a DEATH STARE the entire time it took me to get to my room. Creepy. That same day I overheard a different cleaning lady complaining that the lot of rooms where I had been staying was taken away from her. Residents: There are people who live at this property. I was able to put together that they've developed a kind of clique and the blonde lady seemed like the ring leader maybe. Still not sure of her role - head of cleaning? Girlfriend or spouse of DK the GM? Resident? Not sure but she was always there. That night the resident / guest who stayed in the other room next to mine, and who was friendly with the blonde lady, followed me from his room as I was leaving my room. I tried being polite and saying hello but nothing. He followed me outside, in the freezing temps, in just a t-shirt and lounge shorts. I got in my car and went along. That night I also went to speak with the front desk to ask a question about rates. DK was there but was like a completely different person - despondent, stand off-ish, but somewhat professional. He did answer my question which was helpful. No problem. Also, that night, the blonde lady and a group of guests / residents / other workers could be heard, very late at night, gathered around talking just down the hall from my door. Check out: The next morning before check out I loaded up my car with my belongings. There was a large 20 ft. truck parked outside and aimed directly towards my parked car (the parking lot is mostly empty). Two guys were inside it watching me - OK. Went back inside the hotel and the blonde lady, along with DK, the pit bull and another lady practically trampled me down in my path as I came back in to check out. No "excuse me" or "pardon me". That also was weird. Checked out with a lady there who seemed to be learning the system. Leaving: Got to my car to leave. Parked truck with guys inside were still there. As I got in my car, they stared the whole time, turned on their truck and revved the motor. Creepy. I had noticed I was overcharged for the second night so circled back around to the front of the hotel and went inside. I had to wait for DK to come back to fix. As I waited the blonde lady appeared again. A couple of hotel guests also came in and they were greeting each other. The blonde lady, who they called by name, was gushing with them, saying she hoped their stay was great. DK arrived and seemed somewhat uneasy. Basically, the blonde lady was always there or popped up no matter where I was - never acknowledging me and just hovering. Creepy. These are all my opinions and feelings. It is difficult to explain or review how creepy and unsafe something or circumstances just feel. Though I am a gay man I’m not 100% sure they knew that. But as a gay man, or any man for that matter, I did-not-feel-safe-here. It felt like I was entering some kind of high-school like atmosphere complete with cliques and bullies. I have traveled a LOT both professionally and personally and stayed in lots of hotels from 1-star to 5-star properties. I've learned what to appreciate, what to overlook and what to ask to have fixed. This was just an UNSETTLING & DISTURBING hotel experience. Lastly, I would also like to thank TripAdivisor reviewer Brittany D for her review in November 2017 - It helped validate the atmosphere that I felt. You SHOULD READ that also before considering a stay.

Not bad

I usually stay at Hilton chains so I was a little reluctant when my friends said they were staying at the red roof inn. I was hesitant especially after the reviews. It def. is not as nice as a Hilton but I have to say it wasn’t bad at all. The staff were friendly, rooms were clean and the bed was comfy. We stayed in the jacuzzi room and it def. could use some updating but again it was fine. For the price it’s worth it

They arent even worth of a 1/5

n the last week on Google Would give zero stars if possible! Supposed GM (DK I believe is his name) allows his very large pit bull to roam the halls unleashed , despite leash laws. Pet friendly is great, but my two year old son shouldn't have been knocked over as we opened the door as said unleashed pit bull ran into my room. I was very angry and told him the dog needed to be on a leash (minus a few expletives on my part as I was very startled and angry). Received absolutely no apology and was never approached to fill out and incident report, etc as I understand a hotel is usually required to do. I tried to let it go so as to not have my trip ruined. A very obvious pile of dog feces was outside of my door the next morning. A member of housekeeping let it slip that DK is accusing my.children of leaving the feces in the hallway. I ran to front desk, explained both instances with the promise of something being done to make this right. The last thing I said was that I do not want to have an issue with staff for the remainder of my stay. A few minutes later DK knocked and said he would not charge us for the stay, but proceeded to kick us out because "he could tell there will be problems between us and staff", even though I clearly stated I didn't and wouldn't want that. He said his dog would never do that because he's a service dog, which is ridiculous because service dogs relieve themselves just the same. Furthernore, I never said it was his pit bull. My anger was at the original incident and then being clearly set up by him blaming my children. Corporate was called, as was animal control. We went to La Quinta and they have been wonderful. We found out the day after (today, 11/1/17) that even though he saw my reviews and new where I was, he was calling around for some reason. Supposedly to warn other hotels, but a day after the matter, especially without legitimate reason, is not acceptable. Police were called. He is the rudest, most unprofessional person I have ever had the displeasure to have to deal with. Most of my trip has been spent trying to deal with him. The sad part is, a legitimate apology was all that was necessary....until he brought my children into it. He's a real POS. He should be fired. I should not have had to call animal control and the police because of borderline harrassment a day after the matter. It's abysmal and unacceptable. Do yourself a favor and do not stay here. You would be better off in your car...or better yet at La Quinta. They are amazing. Zero problems!
